Te Ara Whakamana

Training is designed to help Teacher Aides identify and understand the unique strengths and needs of individual tamaiti within a cultural context. Te Ara Whakamana aligns with all Teacher Aide competencies defined in the Competency Matrix in that it supports the development of reciprocal relationships that enhance cultural identities, inclusion and a sense of safety and belonging. It is responsive to diverse worldviews and languages which enables a deeper understanding of ways to

support children who are neurodiverse and/or affected by trauma, including intergenerational cultural trauma, to assist in authentic cultural

responsiveness and enhanced whānau engagement. Training in Te Ara Whakamana equips Teacher Aides to apply learnings competently and confidently in all competency areas.

Poutiria te Aroha

This PLD draws on mātauranga Māori, Te Aho Matua and Te Tuakiri o Te Tangata as a framework for raising and teaching children with non-violence in a Māori speaking environment. It is a three-day foundation programme delivered in-person, wānanga style.

Te Ahu o te Reo

This PLD is focused on improving te reo Māori competency in the Education workforce. TRN currently offers Level 3 – Level 7 to kura kaupapa Māori kaiako and whānau using online and face to face delivery modes. We expect that Kaiāwhina come into a kura kaupapa Māori setting at least at Level B (Work matrix table – Te Ao Māori) and that this programme would support them to improve their te reo Māori capability, their understanding of Māori language revitalization and the role of kura kaupapa Māori as agents of change.

Ako tikanga

This PLD uses mahi toi, whakangā, whakataukī, waiata and karakia within a Te Aho Matua setting to understand behaviour and support emotionally healthy behaviours and practices. This programme is delivered over a year with participants spending time based at te kura kaupapa Māori o Ruamata to learn, observe and participate in Ako Tikanga. Participants receive analogue resources they can use in their own kura. It is likely to start in Term 2 this year.

Te Aho Matua Wānanga

This PLD is based on the philosophy of kura kaupapa Māori and the wise practice that has emerged over the last 35 years. Wānanga are delivered on-demand for individual kura kaupapa Māori or at a regional level with groups of two or more kura. These wānanga are usually held on weekends to allow whānau involvement. Wānanga may be delivered bilingually to accommodate whānau learning styles.

Nga Puawaitanga o Hineakua

Nga Puawaitanga o Hineakua is part of the Nga Poutama/Educational unit of Te Runanga. Our aim is to foster cultural capability and understanding of local history through using stories of our local Maori Tipuna as a learning tool to connect kura, akonga and Kaiako to Maunga, Whenua and Awa and to hapū, marae and iwi through purakau, tikanga, korero and whakapapa.
