Information on Mathematics & Statistics PLD

Professional learning and development (PLD) to support the implementation of the refreshed Mathematics and Statistics Learning Area for Years 9–10 of The New Zealand Curriculum will be available nationwide from Term 1, 2026.

The aims of this PLD are to:

  • Strengthen teachers’ understanding of the refreshed Mathematics and Statistics learning area, including how learning progresses across the teaching sequence.
  • Deepen teachers’ pedagogical content knowledge of key concepts for Years 9–10, with guidance on important teaching points and common misconceptions.
  • Provide practical examples and activities that model evidence informed teaching practices that teachers can apply directly in their classrooms.

Eligibility Criteria

This PLD is available to teachers working in Phase 4 of the curriculum in state and state integrated schools.

Heads of department, senior leadership and staff involved in mathematics & statistics are welcome to attend. However, the primary focus of this PLD is for teachers of Year 9 and 10 students, including those who teach mathematics alongside another subject specialisation.
Teacher Release Day (TRD) Funding

Teacher release funding will be provided for workshop attendees. This contribution will be made directly to schools by the end of the term following the workshop.

Note: TRD funding applies only to participants of the workshop.

Delivery of the PLD

PLD will be delivered by Ministry approved facilitators.

Webinars

One-hour online sessions will be available from Term 1. Details on session dates, times and links will be published on Maths PLD Y9 - 10 webinars. Recordings will be made available later in the year for asynchronous access.
