Later this term, we will be delivering the first cohort of Te Hāpai Ākonga: our new accelerated learning support programme for mokopuna learning through Te Marautanga o Aotearoa. Designed specifically for Tau 1 to 8 mokopuna who aren’t yet achieving as expected in pānui, tuhituhi, kōrero, and pāngarau, Te Hāpai Ākonga helps mokopuna meet their educational goals supported by their kaiako.

The programme will be delivered by specialist facilitators, who will support individuals or groups of optimally up to three mokopuna. Groups of up to 10 can also be catered for where there is a shared learning goal, and the mokopuna are at a similar readiness level. Support will be provided through:

  • face-to-face teaching to mokopuna, tailored to their specific learning needs
  • support to kaiako, equipping them with the tools, knowledge, and understanding necessary to continue supporting mokopuna during and after the programme's completion.

For this cohort of Te Hāpai Ākonga, we are focusing on supporting mokopuna that meet the following criteria:

  • Ākonga Tau 1 to 3 working within Tūārere 1 for Rangaranga Reo ā-Tā
  • Ākonga Tau 3 to 6 working within Tūārere 1 (Tau 3 level) and or Tūārere 2 (Tau 4 to 6) for Poutama Pāngarau.

When is the programme running?

The first cohort of Te Hāpai Ākonga programme will start this term, and finish mid-Term 3. We will contact applicants within the week after applications close with more details, specific to their kura and the mokopuna they have identified as needing support.
