Information on structured Pāngarau

Professional learning & development (PLD) to support the implementation of the redesigned Pāngarau wāhanga ako of Te Marautanga o Aoteaora is being made available nation-wide from 2025.

The Ministry is funding professional learning and development (PLD) for structured pāngarau to support Tau 0 - 8 kaiako teaching in Māori-medium and Kaupapa Māori education settings.

The Poutama Pāngarau programme offers a detailed framework for teaching pāngarau and is built around the concept of the Mata Ako, which outlines the different areas of key foundational learning within the different whenu in pāngarau.

In addition, it provides links to other strands of pāngarau and offers guidance on how to effectively implement the programme in the classroom. Te Poutama Pāngarau Programme sits within Te Ara Tohu.

Kura and schools can apply individually or on behalf of a kāhui ako or cluster of kura/schools.
