To make sure that teachers and leaders have what's needed to provide the best possible education for their students, we're continuing to improve the way we support professional learning.

That means changes to existing regionally allocated professional learning and development (RAPLD) towards a system of centrally designed, high-quality PLD.

These changes continue to grow opportunities for high-quality, evidence-based professional learning for more educators.

What's coming this year?

PLD for structured approaches to literacy and te reo matatini will be available from Term 3.
Teachers of students in Years 0-3 will be the first cohort to receive PLD in structured literacy and te reo matatini approaches, beginning with those who have not had any training in structured teaching approaches before.
Further information on how to access this will be available soon.

Who's providing this PLD?

Schools and kura will have a choice of providers for structured literacy and te reo matatini PLD, subject to provider capacity.

Once the providers are quality approved, schools and kura can choose from a panel of providers.

The Ministry has worked with specialists to develop criteria so that all PLD provision is quality assured and is underpinned by the science of learning principles.

Kaiako teaching in and through te reo Māori will have access to PLD in structured approaches to te reo matatini and phonics designed by the Ministry and facilitated by quality assured to reo matatini providers, using a mixture of in person, online and group opportunities.
